Recently, our partner, Radisson Hotels, created the infinity room experiment. It was designed to inspire creative and innovative thinking and produce more meaningful meetings.

Inspire Curiosity & Creativity: Infinity Room Experience

Today’s event planners are tasked with pushing the boundaries of innovation, all while navigating a sea of constraints. Yet, by applying findings from the science of creativity, it’s possible to transform these restrictions into opportunities for creative problem solving. Indeed, those familiar with the latest research are flipping traditional meeting spaces on their head by designing immersive experiences that turn down sensory input so that participants can tune-in to their internal world of ideas.

Memorable meeting planning is all about attention to detail. And, by placing a particular emphasis on sensory experiences such as lighting and sound, we can subtly encourage participants to delve deeper. While we often see and hear what we expect to see and hear, given the opportunity to hone in on one sensory element at a time, we can break free of mental constraints that limit our thinking.

Let’s do a thought experiment

Close your eyes and try to visualize your dream meeting. Whether this comes easily or you’re drawing a blank may have a lot to do with your environment. Are you in a busy office buzzing with work chatter? Sitting at a kitchen table that doubles as your home office? Before you go beating yourself up for a lack of imagination, consider whether you’re distracted by all the sensory input from your surroundings.

Let’s try that exercise again in a completely different setting. Imagine you’re being led through a series of visualization exercises in a dark black room. Your colleagues are there but you can’t see them. Group brainstorming will take place later on, but first it’s just you, following specific prompts designed to help you and the other participants transcend current challenges. Attendees are encouraged to quietly jot down their reflections as the exercise progresses. Then, having passed through several ever-deepening stages of ideation, the room gradually lightens up, slowly revealing infinity patterns. In a final crescendo, a visual rendition of each participant’s aspirations appears, with the images serving as a basis for a group discussion on the future of meetings and events.Images of the infinity room experience

Here are 3 key takeaways that can be applied to your next meeting to make it memorable:

Unexpected Environments Boost Connection & Impact Unlock the power of novelty for lasting impressions

Unique experiences forge deeper, more authentic connections, drawing strangers together. Elevate your meetings with thrilling moments to foster profound connections

Unlocking Innovation: The Power of Solo Ideation in Brainstorming

Research indicates that effective brainstorming starts with individual ideation. Why? Solitary reflection bypasses group dynamics that may hinder idea generation. Additionally, this approach leverages diverse team strengths, blending logical and creative thinking styles to uncover optimal solutions. Often, innovation lies in rearranging familiar elements in fresh ways. With consistent tools, we can unearth a multitude of innovative solutions.

Fostering Creativity: The Power of Darkness

Drawing from the transformative experience of dining in complete darkness, we can apply a valuable lesson to our events and meetings. Just as sensory deprivation enhances creativity in the culinary realm, creating environments that minimize distractions and engage our senses can significantly boost innovation and inspiration in professional settings. By removing visual stimuli and fostering a deeper connection with our surroundings, we open the door to heightened creativity and fresh perspectives. Incorporating elements of sensory exploration and deprivation into our events can lead to more impactful brainstorming sessions, productive discussions, and innovative problem-solving. Harness the power of sensory experience to unlock new levels of creativity and engagement in your next meetings and events.
